Jack Beck joins Arizona State Sun Devils hockey lineup following professional stint
Beck’s path to Arizona State began in Richmond Hill, Ontario, where he developed into a sixth-round selection by the Calgary Flames in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. After being picked 168th overall, Beck spent time honing his craft in the Ontario Hockey League, where he showcased his offensive abilities with both the Ottawa 67’s and Soo Greyhounds.
His standout season came in 2023-24 with the Soo Greyhounds, where Beck exploded for 85 points in just 67 games. The left-handed winger demonstrated elite playmaking ability with 58 assists to complement his 27 goals. His performance didn’t waver when the stakes increased, maintaining a point-per-game pace during the Greyhounds’ playoff run with four points in four postseason appearances.
The decision to turn professional following that impressive campaign seemed natural. Beck waived his NHL draft rights, becoming a free agent, and signed on to test himself against older, more experienced competition in North America’s top development leagues.
During the 2024-25 season, Beck competed in 40 professional games split between two levels. His four-game stint with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL saw him record three points, including one goal and two assists. The brief taste of hockey’s highest minor league provided invaluable lessons about the pace and physicality required to succeed at the next level.
His extended run with the Wheeling Nailers proved even more productive. Beck tallied 36 points in 36 games, maintaining an impressive point-per-game average with eight goals and 28 assists. The consistency he displayed throughout the ECHL season demonstrated his ability to be a difference-maker at the professional level.
