Dallas Stars sign Jason Robertson to one-year $12 million deal

The Dallas Stars signed forward Jason Robertson to a one-year $12 million contract on July 22, 2026, ending his arbitration process.

Path to the Agreement

Robertson filed for arbitration on July 5 after receiving a $9.3 million qualifying offer. His hearing was set for July 25 at 9 a.m. Both sides preferred to avoid the hearing that often damages relationships.

General manager Jim Nill had prioritized keeping Robertson since the start of negotiations in March. The forward rejected offers from the Seattle Kraken and other teams because he believed in the Stars winning culture.

Dallas announced the signing through official channels and on social media the same day. Elliotte Friedman and PuckPedia confirmed the details of the all-salary deal with no signing bonus.

Robertson led the Stars with 96 points in 82 games during the 2025-26 season including 45 goals. He added eight points in six playoff games.

The one-year pact keeps Robertson under contract through the 2026-27 season at which point he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Contract Details and Implications

The $12 million figure exceeds the $9.3 million qualifying offer by $2.7 million. Robertson remains eligible to negotiate an extension beginning January 1.

Dallas enters the season $1.36 million over the $105 million salary cap. Money coming off the books next summer including Tyler Seguin’s $9.85 million AAV will create more room.

Nill stated in the press release that Robertson has been a cornerstone since his 2017 draft selection and one of the league’s top offensive threats. The deal aligns with Nill’s view of Robertson as a franchise priority.

In 456 regular-season games Robertson has accumulated 490 points. His 52 playoff points in 62 games helped the Stars reach three straight Western Conference Finals from 2023 to 2025.

The structure leaves both parties flexibility. Robertson can test the market in 2027 if no extension is reached while the Stars avoid long-term commitment amid current cap pressure.

Outlook for Extension Talks

Discussions can resume after January 1 without the pressure of an imminent arbitration ruling. The noise around Robertson’s future is expected to decrease until the trade deadline if needed.

Robertson expressed preference to stay in Dallas rather than pursue higher offers elsewhere. The one-year bridge deal satisfies his desire to remain with a contender.

The Stars still face offseason work to reach compliance but the signing secures their top offensive contributor for the coming season.
