Larkin Narrows Trade List to Three Contenders

Players:Teams:

Dylan Larkin has confined his preferred trade destinations to the Vegas Golden Knights, Florida Panthers and Minnesota Wild, each linked by shared Team USA Olympic experiences.

Shared Olympic Ties Shape the Shortlist

Helene St. James reported that Larkin supplied the three-team list directly to Detroit general manager Steve Yzerman. Each club features at least one teammate from the 2026 gold-medal squad.

Matthew Tkachuk anchors the Florida connection. Jack Eichel provides the Vegas link. Quinn Hughes, Brock Faber and Matt Boldy cover Minnesota.

Larkin played 11 seasons in Detroit and appeared in just one playoff series during that span. The recent Olympic success apparently crystallized his desire for a deeper run.

The captain’s contract carries an $8.7 million annual cap hit for the next five seasons. That figure limits which teams can absorb the salary without major restructuring.

Cap and Asset Barriers for Each Club

Vegas lacks sufficient cap space to add Larkin without moving multiple contracts. General manager Kelly McCrimmon has shown willingness to trade established players, yet the Golden Knights must still sign Pavel Dorofeyev and Rasmus Andersson while extending others.

Florida faces a steep in-division price. Steve Yzerman would demand Anton Lundell or equivalent value plus the ninth overall pick and additional pieces. Bill Zito has already signaled reluctance to part with Lundell.

Minnesota offers the cleanest fit. General manager Bill Guerin already pursued Quinn Hughes aggressively last summer. The Wild’s need for a top-line center aligns with Larkin’s profile and their stated goal of winning a Stanley Cup.

Yzerman Holds the Leverage

Larkin retains a full no-trade clause through the 2026-27 season, giving him final say over any destination. Yzerman must therefore balance a strong return against the risk of Larkin refusing other offers.

Potential secondary suitors such as Tampa Bay, Anaheim and the New York Islanders remain on the periphery if the original three clubs cannot meet Detroit’s price.

Any deal will likely include at least one first-round pick and a young roster player, given Larkin’s age and production.

Yzerman must extract at least a top prospect and first-round pick from any deal before the July 1 free-agent window opens.
