The Florida Panthers traded their ninth and 25th overall picks plus future assets to acquire Brady Tkachuk, leaving their prospect pool middling.

Draft Moves Signal Short-Term Focus

The Panthers originally held the ninth and 25th overall picks in the 2026 draft before sending them along with a 2029 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick to Ottawa for Brady Tkachuk. This deal removed four high-value future assets and reinforced a roster already built for immediate contention. They also moved on from Sergei Bobrovsky while adding depth pieces such as Radko Gudas.

Sandis Vilmanis posted five points in 19 NHL games during the 2025-26 season and is positioned to play a bottom-nine role in 2026-27. His versatile two-way game fits multiple forward lines without requiring top-six minutes.

Linus Eriksson recorded seven points in 43 Swedish League games and excels as a forechecker and support player. His two-way reliability makes him a candidate for middle-six or bottom-six duty once he adjusts to North American play.

Gracyn Sawchyn tallied strong AHL production in his first pro season despite a January-to-April injury absence. His combination of puck skill and relentless effort projects as a checking-line forward who can contribute on special teams.

Positional Depth Reveals Clear Gaps

The Panthers’ wingers stand out as the strongest group, featuring Sandis Vilmanis, Arvid Drott, Simas Ignatavicius and Jack Devine. Ignatavicius, selected 40th overall in 2026, brings size and net-front presence after success against men in Switzerland. Drott heads to the WHL after recording consistent scoring in Sweden and could overwhelm opponents with speed.

The blue line remains nearly nonexistent beyond Matvei Shuravin, the organization’s top defensive prospect. Shuravin is expected to make his AHL debut and reads plays effectively despite limited offensive upside. Right-side options are limited to Ludvig Jansson and long-shot names such as Albert Wikman.

Kirill Gerasimyuk split time between the AHL and ECHL last season and is slated for a larger AHL role in 2026-27. His economical movement and tracking ability give him a path to become a reliable backup option.

Ryder Cali, taken 48th overall, posted 36 points in 47 OHL games and projects as a power forward suited for bottom-six minutes. Jonas Kemps, selected 98th overall, brings a 6-foot-6 frame that the organization hopes develops into shutdown-zone reliability.

2026 Draft Class Adds Physicality

The Panthers used their second-round picks on Ignatavicius and Cali, both players who match the team’s physical, direct style. Vilho Vanhatalo and Cole Zurawski add further wing depth with power-forward traits, while Louis-Antoine Denault provides a 6-foot-8 goaltending project.

Jack Devine produced 43 points in 63 AHL games in his first full professional season. At age 23 entering 2026-27, he faces a critical year to prove NHL viability or settle into a top AHL role.

The organization holds no first-round selections in the immediate future after the Tkachuk trade, forcing reliance on middle-round selections and internal development.
