Jordan Tourigny received a match penalty for stomping an opponent with his skate in the third period of Tuesday’s Memorial Cup contest, prompting the NHL to recommend his immediate removal from the remainder of the tournament.

The Sequence of Events
The NHL, which oversees all discipline and officiating at the Memorial Cup, reviewed the incident and recommended Tourigny be suspended for the balance of the event. The Memorial Cup games committee and CHL executive council accepted that recommendation without alteration.
Chicoutimi will next play in either a tiebreaker or semifinal depending on the outcome of Wednesday’s round-robin game between the Everett Silvertips and Kelowna Rockets.
Rangers coach Jussi Ahokas addressed the play after Tuesday’s game and stated that the stomp had nothing to do with physical hockey.
The league issued a statement acknowledging the action as regrettable while condemning the subsequent online threats directed at the player.
Tourigny, listed at 21 years old, played his final CHL game in that third period.
Career Totals and Transitions
Tourigny finished his CHL regular season with 32 points in 29 games after Chicoutimi acquired him from Shawinigan mid-season.
He added eight goals and 16 points in 20 playoff games with the Sagueneens.
Across five seasons split between Shawinigan and Chicoutimi he reached 320 regular-season games, 46 goals, 162 assists and 208 points.
His playoff totals stood at 46 points in 61 games, including a QMJHL championship with Shawinigan in 2021-22 when he later served as captain.
The suspension therefore terminates his CHL eligibility at those exact career figures.
Next Chapter at Northeastern
Tourigny is committed to Northeastern University for the 2026-27 NCAA season and will begin that transition immediately after the Memorial Cup.
The move follows a year in which he produced 48 combined regular-season and playoff points in 49 games with Chicoutimi.
No further CHL games remain available to him regardless of how far the Sagueneens advance.
The 320-game regular-season total now stands as the final CHL benchmark for the defenseman.
